Far Southwest Side District Plans Synthesis

Chicago has many citywide and local place-based plans with stated goals for the built environment. Some are municipal; others are nonprofit driven. They prioritize public and private capital investments, provide important context for those investments and help determine how a community should grow and where development should occur.

Planning Context: The communities of Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood face competition from the suburbs in addition to other neighborhoods in Chicago. Collectively, the area is diverse, but less so at the community level: Beverly and Mount Greenwood are predominantly white while Morgan Park is predominantly African-American. A high proportion of two-parent households, higher education levels and median household income as compared to Chicago are strengths, while weaknesses such as low density and an aging population provide challenges to economic and residential development.
